A complete audiogram displaying your hearing ability over the tested
frequencies will be shown at the end of the hearing test. In addition, the
percentage of your hearing loss will be given for each ear. This percentage
represents an estimate of the amount of speech information lost in each ear. For
example, a 60% rating in the right ear means that, using just your right ear,
you would probably be able to hear only 40% of the information available to you
for a normal speech conversation. You may, however, be able to pick up more than
40% of words with utilization of context cues and other listening strategies.
All calculations are based on the American National Standard Methods For
the Calculation of the Speech Intelligibility Index, also known as SII or AI
(ANSI S3.5-1997).
